Our Parent's Retreat

We began our first level renovation in February to build our parent's retreat.

Simon and I are thrilled with our space! It includes our bedroom, sitting room, bathroom, walk in wardrobe and a covered balcony. All up a space of 78m2 internally and a 16m2 balcony.

We feel so lucky to have such a beautiful space to call our own.

We built our home over 21 years ago with Masterton Homes and it has been perfect for us over the years. But we decided as our family grows up and we now use the spaces differently, it was time to give everything a little upgrade. We can't believe how different our little house looks!

We obviously kept everything light and bright with 4 skylights and a wall of glass doors out to the balcony. The vaulted ceiling gives the space such a roomy, airy feel.

I had a lot of questions regarding our flooring.... they are 133 x 19mm cypress pine tongue and groove timer. We finished it with Feast Watson proof seal and 5 coats of Feast Watson floor paint.

 We wanted a neutral calm vibe so we went with a white leather sofa, sisal rugs, natural linen, plants and custom cabinetry for our tv unit and storage cupboards.

Our bathroom feels so luxe with the high ceilings and the same tile floor to ceiling. The warmth of the cabinetry is a lovely contrast and I love the combination with the brass tapware.

We built in a shower seat and the niche above the bath.

Another skylight in the bathroom keeps everything bright and sunny.

Our walk in wardrobe is such an amazing space to have after 20 years of us sharing a much smaller cupboard downstairs! We each have a side with a combination of drawers and hanging space and it is sooo lovely to be able to organise everything!

We also have 4 built in storage cupboards. A linen press, a cleaning cupboard with ironing board, mop, vaccuum etc, a book/library cupboard and a miscellaneous cupboard with bits n pieces.

It feels great to have everything within easy reach without having to run up and down the stairs.

We are looking forward to Spring/Summer and being able to use the balcony with it's lovely ocean views on one side and the backyard from the other.

Simon cleverly designed this space for us and was the owner/builder throughout. 

This was an amazing experience for him and he discovered and developed new building and engineering skills. We are so proud of him!

We also built a rumpus room/hang out space for the boys upstairs and I will share that in another post.

NEW Bed Linen - a GIVEAWAY with KAS Australia

I always like to give each room in our home a little refresh as the seasons change. 

With summer coming up I've been adding a new cushion here and there, changing out the artwork on the walls and introducing new bed linen in our room to give it a relaxed, pretty summer feel.

New rugs in the house!

Summer is over and my usual need to change things up each season has arrived!

I'm loving my 2 new rugs from Miss Amara Loves and the freshness they have brought to the rooms.

I'm still sticking with the neutral tones throughout the house with just a pop of colour here and there. My various plants definitely add the texture and colour in each room. It all feels very calming.

In the living room I have this gorgeous patterned bamboo silk rug. It's so pretty and soft and has a grey hue which is perfect for this high traffic area and any dirty feet (boys or dog!). 

It camouflages any marks better than a cream or white.

I love that I can keep the rest of the room simple and have the rug as the focus.

In the bedroom we replaced our old rug with this amazing wool rug. 

The colour and pattern is simple which I love as it works with my various bedlinen. Also the wool adds a cosy feel to the room which is perfect as we go into the cooler months.

I'm so happy with them and they really add that "something" to the room.

I'm loving the larger size of the rugs which feels a little more luxe and finishes off the rooms perfectly.

These rugs are amazing quality and I've noticed the difference in how they sit and feel compared to our old ones. They don't rumple or crease or have corners sticking up.

I think I'm going to add one more rug to my other living space. I'll let you know how I go!

Stills...... February 2017

Life is ticking along and I feel like we haven't really taken a pause since school started back. After our slow days through out the holidays I definitely feel like we've kicked up a couple of gears.

Luckily we made this weekend a quiet one and just enjoyed pottering around the house and embraced the cooler weather and the rain. The boys were excited to see the hail and lightning, it's been a while since we've had a good storm! I made time for a massage over the weekend and am going into this week feeling rested and relaxed. Here are a few photos from the weekend......

Room Tour - a sweet + pretty nursery

I came across the photos of this nursery the other day on The Glitter Guide and loved the statement wallpaper and the airy, girly feel.

It's all about the pink and the pretty! The nursery is also sophisticated enough for the room to be suitable from the newborn stage though to toddler age.

Bedroom Makeover Reveal + SleepMaker Giveaway

Thanks to SleepMaker we got the chance to give our bedroom a makeover.

The timing was perfect as the renovations were complete and our bedroom needed a fresh new look to match the rest of the house. We kept most of our existing furniture and homewares but a few new bits and pieces were added. This included a new bed. 

Our old bed was so low to the ground you couldn't vacuum under it so I wanted something lighter and airier. I also got Simon to make a bench for the end of the bed. So great to have a handy husband!

After being out of the house for 5 weeks while the renovations were happening, I have a new appreciation for my own bed and my own house. 

It was great to potter around and create a new relaxed, comfy sanctuary.

My love of typography and prints is still strong as you can see here!

I wanted the art above the bed to be a feature and have a romantic, coupley theme.

Neutral colours were also important as I wanted them to complement any colour of linen on the bed.

You can't really dress up a tv but we love to watch an episode of something before we go to sleep.

 A beaded ball chandelier in white was on my wishlist for ages. 

I just needed to find one in my budget  and I did!

The bench Simon made was a quick DIY and is the perfect spot to sit and pop your shoes on. 

Noah is also using it as a step to launch himself on the bed!

I can't tell you how wonderful our sleep has been since the mattress arrived.  

Also the softness of the washed grey linen quilt cover has me lingering there in the mornings and doing a bit of work from bed. We have been on school holidays after all ;)

I'm not the only one hanging out there!
