When I was approached by Sharp to trial their Slow Juicer I jumped at the chance. I was also excited to hear that I have 1 x Sharp Slow Juicer to giveaway to a Honey and Fizz reader!
Juice is something that our whole family loves and I knew we would have fun trying out different juice combinations and it would also save us a whole lot of money as we wouldn't have to buy any juice. Juice for 5 people really adds up!
We popped down to the local market and stocked up on fruits and vegetables we could juice.
We stuck to familiar combinations but as the weeks go on I'm sure we will become more adventurous with our flavours.
The boys loved the novelty of requesting their favourite juices and of course they loved feeding the fruit into the juicer. I was really impressed with how roughly we could get away with chopping up the produce, as the strong motor easily squeezed and juiced large chunks.
Here are some of our favourite juice combinations
Green juice - mint, cucumber, apple and celery
Carrot, apple + ginger
Beetroot, carrot, apple + mint
Pineapple, ginger + orange
Good old, simple OJ
We got in the habit of making up a few juices at one time and kept them in the fridge. They lasted really well and didn't go watery or separate. It was so easy to have them made up to grab on the go.
Putting the juice into our mason jars with the lids meant Simon could grab one on his way out the door and drink it on his way to work. It also looked cute ;)
We probably drank a juice a day as the juicer was really easy to use and to clean.
I think what had put us off making juice at home was what a hassle it was to pull apart a juicer and clean it. But with the Sharp Slow Juicer there were just two main parts that simply got rinsed under a hot tap and returned to the base ready to be used again. The 2 plastic jugs that came with the juicer, (1 to catch the juice and the other the pulp) were popped in the dishwasher.
If I didn't have a juice with breakfast I would make up a jug for afternoon tea.
You really can't beat fresh juice!
I also found it handy to create fresh, fruity iceblocks for the boys.
And the juicer was perfect when I needed some fresh grapefruit juice for Margaritas on the weekend.
We used this recipe
Grapefruit Margarita
2 oz. Tequila
2 oz. Grapefruit
1 oz. lime juice
1/2 oz. triple sec
1/2 oz. agave
Kosher salt for rim
lime wedge
garnish- grapefruit slice/lime slice
Add tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, triple sec and agave into a shaker with ice. Shake.
Take lime wedge and run around lip of glass. Place salt on plate and swirl the cup lip in the salt.
Add ice to glass. Strain cocktail shaker into glass. Garnish with grapefruit.
The Technical stuff!

Simon and I really loved the Slow Juicer and found it so easy and efficient to use. The fact that it was so simple to clean really made it a winner.
It is one of the few appliances on our kitchen bench that is getting used daily. Also we loved how the boys fruit + veg intake went up this week.

****UPDATED TO CONFIRM GIVEAWAY CLOSED AND THE WINNER WAS AMANDA FROM HOMELY ONE ****
Hi Gorgeous Simone - love this and would love to win this juicer. I have one of those big annoying juicers that we were given as a wedding gift all those years ago and guess what - we don't use it because it is too hard to clean! This looks great and I make pineapple, carrot and apple juice! Hope you are all well. Leanne xx
ReplyDeleteGood luck Leanne, yes this juicer is so simple to clean x
DeleteThe other week I tried pineapple and mint. It was delicious and refreshing. Now I just need a juicer at home so I can make it myself :)
ReplyDeleteSounds delish! Good luck x
DeleteI do have an old juicer passed on to me by a friend when she left Melbourne for good. It still does its job but every now and then, fruits/veg get stuck and the motor does this really scary and shaky sound. It's also really inconvenient to clean. Would love to try the Sharp slow juicer too. My fav fruit combination is apple, orange, carrot and red grapes. But I'm starting to do green juices too now and so far the best green juice combination I've tried consist of kale, cos lettuce, cucumber, Granny Smith and Peckham pear!
ReplyDeleteI like the addition of the pear! Good luck x
DeleteSo many yummy juice combos!! My favourite (especially in winter) is carrot, orange, apple and ginger. I think it is a great immunity booster to kick off my day.
ReplyDeleteDaisy xo
I agree Daisy, definitely keeps those cold & flu bugs away. Good luck x
DeleteI don't have the luxury of owning a juicer but boy oh boy would I love to get my hot little hands on one of these fantastic machines! My all time fave juice combo is pineapple, watermelon, apple and carrot. Yummo!
ReplyDeleteImagine what you could create! Good luck x
DeleteI have an old juicer which takes a good 10 minutes to clean which is slightly off putting. I try and use it at least twice a week though and our family favourite is carrot and apple with either a hint of lemon or a touch of ginger. We always have these staples in the fridge, although sometimes we are a bit more adventurous! I would love a new Sharp Slow Juicer, if I could create juices like your combinations I would be happy! x
ReplyDeleteMy husband wants to put ginger in all the juices! I have to say we are using the juicer more as it is so quick to clean. Good luck! x
DeleteGreen apple, kale, silverbeet, english spinach, cucumber, parsley, celery and lemon. The lemon and apple really give it a zingy lemonade taste. My three year old always asks for this "green juice".
ReplyDeleteSounds delish! Such a good habit for the littles to get into. Good luck x
DeleteWhen I got hit with a nasty cold the other week my best friend was freshly squeezed ginger and lemon juice shots, bit of a bite on that one! My favourite juice combo, preferably served in the sun poolside, is carrot, pineapple, celery, and ginger.
ReplyDeleteI bet it helped your cold. Good luck! x
DeleteBananas and strawberries are my fav combo. It would be great to have the luxury of a juicer!! Then I could use some imagination and try lots of others.
ReplyDeleteI agree, imagine what you could create! Good luck x
DeleteHi Simone, thanks so much for your instagram and blog... I find a lot to be inspired by! One of my favourite juice combinations is apple, spinach, cucumber and lime... apparently it helps improve your mood []
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting, even a better reason to start the day with a juice. Good luck! x
DeleteThanks Simone - having one as we speak from the cafe at work ;) xx
DeleteYay! I have been waiting for this since you gave me the heads up on IG. :) I have enjoyed juicing of late but have struggled as I have just been using my blender. It is a tad thick! I have been loving pineapple, orange, mandarin, lime and some ginger and water. thanks Simone! X
ReplyDeleteThis juicer is amazing in how it separates the pulp and juice so well. Good luck! x
DeleteThis juicer looks great! Love that it seems so easy to clean! We love pineapple, apple, strawberry and mint :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so easy to use Mel. Good luck! x
DeleteWow, this looks great! Kale, green grapes, cucumber and a Granny Smith apple increase your iron intake in a yummy way! I read recently that if you combine 1 cup of juice from any recipe, 1 cup ice cubes, 1/2 cup low-fat plain yogurt, and 1 medium peeled banana in a blender your juice becomes a smoothie! Clever! Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity Simone!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great tip! Good luck x
DeleteHi Simone
ReplyDeleteThis is my favourite juice... I don't like pineapple but in a juice I love it! I sometimes substitute the spinach for kale;
2 cups spinach, fresh
2 cups water
1 cup pineapple
1 cup mango
2 bananas
Kylie:)
PS I love your blog and looking at pics of your home
Thanks so much Kylie. Good luck x
DeleteI would Love Love Love to win this Juicer. We have a beautiful Lemon tree in our backyard so I would love to create a juice with those, maybe Lemon, Apple and Ginger (to keep away those winter colds). I also have 3 little children so would love for them to be able to experiment with different ingredients, I am sure we would end up with a Maddie, Jack and Flynn special.
ReplyDeleteHaley Ellard
That sounds amazing Haley, yes the kids love coming up with concoctions. As the juicer doesn't have sharp blades to hurt little fingers I felt comfortable in the boys using it. Good luck x
DeleteFridge envy here. Yours is so clean and neat.. ha ha!! Im all for just a plain old freshly squeezed orange juice. Delicious and refreshing. Sometimes it may be dressed with a little mint on the top.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite juice combo is pineapple, watermelon, kale, coconut water and a creamy banana. It rejuvenates me in winter and gets my mind and body ready for summer.
ReplyDeleteRuby Red.. Carrots, tomatoes, one fresh red chilli, and an orange. All from the garden;-), packed full of vitamins with a punch.
ReplyDeleteThe kids love the sweetness of beetroot (colour too) I add an apple and thumb of ginger.
Carrot, Apple and Ginger is my go to juice for fighting off colds in winter. Its packed with great nutrients and the spiciness of the ginger warms me right up. The vibrant sunny hue makes it all the more appetizing
ReplyDeletepineapple, raspberry and mint : )
ReplyDeleteGotta be in it to win it right? I love Apple, Pineapple, Kiwi, and Kale. Im only a newbie to juices and I love this combo xx
ReplyDeleteI do have a juicer but I found it hard to clean so my juicing days have to wait until I get a better machine.
ReplyDeleteNo I don't have a juicer only a blender but I'd love to have one to make fantastic, healthy juices.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a juicer..yet! But if I did, I would make a lovely tropical sour juice of lime, pineapple. granny smith apples, mint, and grapefruit!
ReplyDeleteI love making what I call a Beetnik: apple, beetroot, carrot, celery and spinach. It turns into a beautiful blood-red juice with a sweet smell. It has great cardioprotective properties, and digestive benefits.
ReplyDeleteI am getting in the habit of replacing my morning coffee for a juice - my favourite is lemon, apple and ginger....gets me feeling zingy (without the jitters of coffee).
ReplyDeleteI couldn't bring my juicer and blender with me when I moved to Australia from the US, but I used to love to juice beets with apples and then blend in berries. Hope to get a juicer!
ReplyDeleteThis juicer sounds amazing! I don't have a juicer at the moment so I've been making lots of smoothies but I do love a good carrot, apple, pineapple and ginger juice.

ReplyDeleteI love a simple orange and sweet lemon juice. It's perfect with eggs and bacon.

ReplyDeleteI like kale, cucumber, apple, and lime!
ReplyDeleteGranny Smith Apple, Kiwi fruit and Pineapple mix - yum
ReplyDeleteI would make a pink juice, strawberries, raspberries and banana! Yay pink juice xx
ReplyDeleteMy favourite combination is apple, pineapple, orange and strawberry. We used to have an old style juicer, but it was just so bulky and a pain to clean. The one you've trialed sounds perfect! x
ReplyDeleteHmm, what would be my favourite?! Kale, carrot, ginger, apple and orange. Yum, yum, YUM!
ReplyDeleteI love, lemon, apple cider vinegar, tumeric, ginger and honey.....I call it flu buster
ReplyDeleteWe are "in between" juicers at the moment, haha, but previously a favourite was my husband's yummy discovery of watermelon and nectarine as an amazing summer juice. Next summer I'll try it with a splash of vodka! At the moment I'm loving ginger and turmeric in tea and smoothies and would love to start juicing turmeric.
ReplyDeleteCranberries, raspberries, strawbwerries, pomegranate and blueberries!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a juicer, but I'd be keen as to try one. I mix up breakfast smoothies in my blender at the moment.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a juicer, so I make what I can in our blender - we're definitely limited though! We love raspberry, apple, spinach, watermelon and mint :-)
ReplyDeleteI own an old Juicer but I do find it really annoying to clean, so I never use it the way I want! My Fave juice is Apple, Carrot and Celery, it's just really fresh and fun!
ReplyDeletePineapple, lemon and coconut water is great for helping me to detox.
ReplyDeleteHi Simone! I've never been game enough to buy one of those big hard to clean and noisy to use juicers before. They never appealed to me too much. But the idea of fresh homemade juice using all kinds of fruit and veg combos just sounds so healthy I'd definitely give it a whirl! I'm a sucker for anything with apples and mint in it, so I think something like apple, pear, lemon and mint would be an awesome combo! Cheers Bel
ReplyDeleteI love an ORANGE HIBISCUS MOCKTAIL... Freshly juiced oranges, a few icecubes and a dash of a dazzling syrup of hibiscus flowers. Here's the recipe for that...
ReplyDeleteCollect about 10 to 12 hibiscus flowers
Put all the flowers into the jug.
1 litre of hot water
(the flowers will start to lose their color)
30ml of lime juice (this turns the color back to red)
3 - 4 tbsp of sugar to taste
Cool in Fridge
I love apple carrot ginger and kiwi fruit or apple and berries but i do like to experiment.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite juice depends on what is seasonal and growing in my garden :)
ReplyDeleteI'm from the tropics so it's all about refreshing cool drinks on hot humid days. There is nothing better than mandarine, pineapple and orange, blended with lemonade. Yummo!
ReplyDeleteI really, really need to get on the juice "bandwagon" so once I win this juicer and have experimented I'll let you know the perfect combination!!!
ReplyDeleteNo I do not own one but would love to have one. It would be great to juice daily. -- shaunie twitter.com/sandyhills25
