It's faux!

So after the renovations inside (pics and info to come) our thoughts turned to outside.
Especially as the warmer weather is coming we wanted to make outside more comfortable, nicer and neater.

The boys are always in the backyard either using the skateboard ramp, in the cubby or kicking a ball around.

Along with a dog and rabbit that like to dig holes, the yard was looking a little tired and unloved.

Simon wanted an easier and maintenance free option and as it is his "domain" I let him go with his idea of artificial grass. Although I never thought I would have it in my backyard I have to admit the yard looks neater and is more user friendly (no bindies and holes!) and it looks always looks lovely and green ;)

Day 1

Day 2

We are spending more time out there and the "grass" is actually nice and soft and great for the boys to play on. I'm thinking I will eventually get my backyard back in about 15 years(!!!) when everyone is done with skating and won't wreck the grass ;)
Back in your cage Fifi!

Inside looking out

The dog doesn't seem fazed by it and the rabbit is not allowed to roam free on it.
It's working for us for now, we'll see how it goes!!

all images my own
We used a company located in Botany called The Grassman
The whole yard only took 2 days, the guys were great and cleaned up all their mess.
So wonderful after a drawn out renovation!!

  3. It looks fantastic the products have really improved over the years to almost look real! Iv heard it can heat up quite a bit in the summer but hey think of the money you will save on not having to water it! Im struggling to keep my lawn growing in my backyard and very tempted to rip it all up and lay artificial lawn instead. You may just convince me :)

    1. Michelle, they are so much more realistic! Yes heard it can get a bit hot in the midday Summer sun so will have to get the hose out to cool it down I think. Yes we were so sick of patchy, weedy and bindi infested lawn. Still such a novelty to walk on it x

  4. I can't eblieve you have a skate ramp in your backyard! I love it! Any boy would love to hang out in your backyard! We have the 'faux' grass at preschool and I love it! With 120 children trampling it 5 days a week it's pretty durable and looks fantastic. My lawn at home has to be relayed because of weeds coming through but I have to say nothing beats the smell of freshly cut grass on a hot summers afternoon :)

    1. I was overruled with the skate ramp Sophie but I have to admit it has grown on me and the boys and their friends do love it :) Good to hear the grass is durable. It will definitely get a work out here! I agree though, will miss that fresh grass smell x

  5. Looks so good! We replaced a huge section out the front with artificial as well and it was the best thing we could do. It gets a little hot in the sun but it is so easy to play on and maintain. Greenants...no greenants!!x

  8. Oh I understand what you mean about reno's and how lengthy they become. We are just coming to the end of ours this week, it's been about 2 months already! So tiring and frustrating. Our yard has just been overhauled as part of the reno, no grass, but some lovely new pavers. I can't wait until the whole thing is all done though. Love the pics, it looks fantastic! xo
