My Week.

This last week of the School Holidays just flew by.
Here are some of the things we got up to :)
I bought some lovely fresh flowers for home. I don't usually buy native flowers but I couldn't resist these gorgeous Waratahs.

We had our first "incident" on the Skate ramp. We thought Finn had maybe broken his ankle but it just turned out to be a nasty bruise/bump. It was an anxious afternoon!

Noah got to enjoy his first bout of warm weather and I got to enjoy dressing him up in some cute shorts and thongs :)
I had a bit of a panic at the warm weather as I didn't really have anything to wear as I haven't really updated my Summer wardrobe since being pregnant last Summer. I was happy to find an old maxi skirt that still fit!
Finn and I have had fun the past week doing the Challenge a day. He has his own Instagram account and I love seeing his view of the world.

Noah has become a daddy's boy this week, lighting up every time Simon walks in the room. Adorable!

And I had a little practice session on creating a mini ombre cake for Noah's Christening which is in a few weeks.

I ended up using 1.5 vanilla packet cake mixes, divided amongst 5 little cake pans. It was a bit hard to get the colours right as I wanted blue but the colour was more aqua/green. Maybe the eggs?
I just made sure I had a variation of the colours.

Once the cakes were cooked, I evened the tops up and popped them in the freezer for a bit to cool. I then layered each colour (darkest on the bottom) with Vanilla icing. I didn't really have enough at home but wasn't too worried as it was my practice run. So the overall look wasn't as polished as I would have liked but once I cut into it, it was perfection!

It was so satisfying to have it work out! And we all had an indulgent Sunday afternoon tea plus leftovers for lunch-boxes and teachers tomorrow.

How has your week been?

  1. Oh those little feet in those itty bitty thongs, I'm in love :)
Gorgeous images Simone. Your outfit is a beautiful one, considering you threw existing clothes together like that... it WAS so very hot last week and I loved it, while it lasted :/
The pic of Simon & Noah is also so lovely.
Great job with the cake too! I made my first ever rainbow layer cake this year and it was quite the task... but very rewarding. I think you're ready for the big one for Noah's christening, good luck! xo

    1. Thanks Julie, the thongs were an old pair of Jasper's that I had kept. So cute :) He only wore them for the photo op of course! I was surprised the skirt fit, you've got to love an elastic waist :) The layer cake was fun and quite easy as it was so small x

  3. Great job on the cake. I made a rainbow one for my daughters 16th last year. Everyone loved it. I love all your photos. Back to school always makes me a little say after having a busy 2 weeks and then no-one at home. What will I be like when they leave home? Have a lovely day.

  4. Looks like a great week Simone. Love the pic of bub and Simon. And that cake! I'm still thinking about it after seeing it on IG. It's amazing how the actual cakes look a bit of an odd colour with the slightly beige tinge, but when you cut it, it looksk amazing! I can't wait to try it xx

    1. Yes Sarah, I thought I might have messed up once I saw the mottley beigey bluey colour but once the icing was on and it was cut, voila! Good luck with yours xx

That cake is AWESOME! Great job! I attempted a rainbow one like that a couple of years ago and it was an epic fail :)
    Have a great week!

  9. Gorgeous cake, I am envious that you are doing this yourself. We have our 8 month olds Christening in 2 weeks and I have a lovely girl from school making mine. Don't you love seeing the little ones bare legs and feet in some sunshine. Gorgeous week.

    1. Thanks, so happy with how it turned out. As it is only a small christening with immediate family I was comfortable doing it myself . How great to know someone that does cakes though :) Yes I love chubby baby legs out in the sun, they are the best! xx

    1. Hi Peta, the top is just a singlet top from Big W. The Emerson range, it is a great cut, kinda roomy and a thicker material. The necklace is from Collette but the charms are from Palas Jewellery. They were my Mothers Day gift this year and I wear them practically every day x

    2. Thanks Simone! I do remember you getting the charms now, I like them on the longer chain.

      Happy weekending to you x

  11. Hi Simone, gorgeous cake, I just made a rainbow one for my daughters 3rd birthday, was so nerve racking cutting into it with everyone watching. I noticed you just used normal food colouring, try the wiltons gel colours. They are soo much better, you get a much better colour with only using the tiniest bit. Good luck x
