Black & White

I find myself living in a black and white house with splashes of colour here and there.
Which is totally different to what I had in my head before going into the renovations, but it's funny how the house "sorts" itself out.

I found the use of too much colour jarring and not looking quite right.
Maybe our house prefers neutrals? Maybe I need my environment to be calm and soothing?

I'm sure the house will change again over time, it will let me know what it needs.

Here is a little pic of my desk area - before and after.
Just a little taste of home.

BEFORE

AFTER

I thought I would  have a completed renovation by the end of this week but another delay has arisen so the photos will have to wait and I will keep telling myself it will all be worth it in the end !

So tell me, does your house suit colour?

  1. I think your right Simone, your home sorts itself out to suit you. But I think we also go in waves. You need colour some days and calm tones on other days, so a change is always good to keep you decor fresh.

  2. I'm a big fan of neutral colour palates for houses also. At the end of the day it's much easier to decorate with splashes of colour and I do think it helps with keeping a calm at home environment. You've got to relax when you're at home after all!

  3. I've got some colour regret with some furniture that we've bought, so I think it pays to have neutral things with splashes of colour you can change with your mood. By the way, I'm over the moon about the giveaway!!

  5. Looks great, Simone. I too love a monochromatic colour scheme. We moved into our newly build house, last year. And prior to moving in I was organising what colours I wanted to use and I too found that it was black and white, I was coming back to. So, that's what I've used throughout the house, for the core base, in nearly every room (except the kids). Then used splashed of colour in my textile and accessories choices. I have lots of wine red, bright yellows and apple greens, for that pop of colour. And I absolutely love the look, black and white is timeless, I think.

  6. Hi,
I love your office desk. I am trying to set up something similar with a nice white desk with clean lines and pretty "stuff" surrounding it, but then I have my great big ugly printer in the way. Can I ask what you did with your printer and your cables for your laptop?

By the way, I can't wait to see the photos of your renovated house, our styles are very similar and I have already taken alot of inspiration from your pictures.

  7. WOW WOW WOW! Look at this beautiful space Simone! LOVE the new look, gorgeous :)
And I am also loving your black and white phase... I am just about to have our kitchen pulled out and replaced with a black & white one... and I can hardly wait. Your desk space is magic, what I would do for a work area like that one xo

  9. Neutral colours are the way to go I think and I love how you can always add colour to the space depending on how you're feeling. Less is more - Isn't that whay they say? I think Neutrals also give a sense of serenity and calm whereas with a busy colours scheme you sometimes don't know where to look!

I love your working space Simone :) I'm still working on mine...

  10. I love Black & White (as I am sure you know) I am adding some colour to my guest room to incorporate a family painting, but guess what I am teaming it with? Yes black & white check cushions and a throw! I do have to say that there seems to be soooo much colour around lately that we do come to appreciate a more subtle look sometimes! xx

  11. Black and white are the perfect combo because you can add any colour you want when you want to come up with a whole new colour scheme. Renos always take longer than expected dont they but it just makes the anticipation build :) Loving the new blog look by the way its really fresh and easy to read x
